Off the top of my head, I believe it does have multi-vendor support; however, I have only ever used it with HP networking designs.

This issue has been a problem with the G2 MSAs throughout – HP now recommend disabling the partner firmware option before applying firmware in the release notes for the newer firmware releases.

Although my client went with ESX 4.1 U1, I see no reason why it will not work with ESXi as long as your SAS controller is supported and you create appropriately sized vDisks (less than 2TB) using the array controller utility on HP Smart Start.

Did your client manage to run ESXi 4.1 U1 on his HP ProLiant DL 180 G6 (which is not officially supported by VMWare) or did he use the ESX 4.1 U1 version?
